Nzambani Primary School, located in Makueni County, serves 511 pupils (251 girls and 260 boys). The school hosts an active Health Club with 64 members from Classes 4–8. Originally formed during a WASH program that ended in 2012, the club continues to operate sustainably through annual student recruitment.
With support from Kenyan Kitchen, the school installed two large-capacity handwashing stations near latrines and dining areas, improving hygiene and reducing waiting time. Under the guidance of Health Club Patron Mr. Maundu, pupils are trained on proper handwashing and safe water practices, leading to consistent hygiene habits.
The school has two rainwater harvesting tanks and is connected to the Komboiyo borehole project, though water shortages sometimes require rationing. The initiative benefits nearby schools and communities by promoting hygiene education.
Future plans include improved drainage and linking water access to tree planting efforts, reinforcing environmental conservation and long-term sustainability.
Held in October 2014 at the Southern Sun Hotel Mayfair in Nairobi, the Intercollegiate Mystery Box Challenge was a flagship initiative by Susan’s Cooking Club, led by Susan Kamau. The event brought together aspiring chefs from Graphtons College and Top Chefs Culinary Institute, offering a dynamic, high-pressure platform to showcase their culinary skills.
Participants competed in a “Mystery Box” format, preparing a surprise dish—spaghetti with minced beef and aubergine—without prior knowledge of the menu. Their performance was evaluated by professional chefs, including Chef Francis from Southern Sun, based on cleanliness, speed, taste, and presentation.
The challenge provided students with valuable hands-on experience, encouraging creativity, adaptability, and technical excellence. It also featured strategic partnerships with leading brands such as Ajinomoto and Russell Hobbs, enhancing the overall experience through quality ingredients and modern kitchen tools.
This initiative successfully bridged the gap between culinary education and industry standards, creating a meaningful platform for Kenya’s emerging culinary talent to learn, compete, and grow.
